There’s something truly special about a neighbourhood coming alive with laughter, lawn chairs, and shared stories.

Recently, my St. Albert neighbourhood hosted a block party in a nearby green space — the kind of spot you walk past every day but rarely pause to enjoy. Kids ran wild, neighbours mingled under trees and pop-up tents, and conversations sparked with people you’ve never really talked to before.

Even a surprise rain shower couldn’t dampen the mood! Umbrellas popped open, food continued to be shared, and the laughter didn’t stop. Despite the weather, the warmth of connection and community was palpable.

Events like these are a beautiful reminder of how small moments of connection matter. Whether it’s sharing a meal, waving hello across the street, or simply spending time outside together, these moments help build a sense of belongingthat nourishes our mental and emotional well-being.

As a therapist and proud St. Albert resident, I see firsthand how healing grows through connection — both with ourselves and with others. Being seen, heard, and acknowledged in community spaces can have a profound impact on our sense of wellness.

If you’ve been feeling disconnected or are looking to strengthen your community ties, support is available, and sometimes all it takes is a small reach out to get started.
