I fully support the regulation of counselling in Alberta and the important work being done by the provincial government, the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA), the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) to make this a reality.

Regulation is more than a formality — it’s a crucial step in safeguarding the public and ensuring consistent, high-quality mental health care across the province.

As a Counselling Therapist with ACTA and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with CCPA, I know how essential it is for Albertans to access safe, competent, and accountable care. Regulation will bring clarity to our profession, affirm our collective identity, and enable practitioners to work confidently within their full scope of practice. It also creates a transparent system for upholding ethical standards, strengthening trust between clients, the public, and those of us in the field.

This is an exciting and important time for counselling in Alberta. If you’re a CCC and eligible, I encourage you to register with ACTA — the more of us who join, the stronger our collective voice becomes.

Let’s continue moving forward together — Albertans deserve accessible, high-quality counselling care.
